Loomifly

Loomiflies are flying neutral insects living in and around Loomiwud trees, pollinating Loomblooms to generate Loomibug Sap and Loomfroot. They appear only in Loonarin's Mod.

Spawning

Naturally generated Loomifly nests generate 2-4 Loomiflies in them, depending on the size of the nest. Naturally generated lesser Loomiwud trees have a 25% chance to generate a Loomifly nest at stages 1-3 (with an equal chance for each stage), while the rarer greater trees are guaranteed to form a stage 3 nest with a 50% chance to have an extra one at stage 1-2.

Post-generation

Loomiwud trees grown from Loodling Seeds within 2 blocks of any flower have a 10% chance to grow a Loomifly nest at stage 1, which will hold 1-2 Loomiflies inside. This goes for both lesser and greater trees.

Drops

Loomiflies only drop 1-5 experience on death, and as with all baby mobs, Loomifly larvae do not drop anything.

Behavior

Much like bees, Loomiflies leave their nests one by one after dusk in the overworld and will patrol a 32x32 block area around their home nest looking for flowers of any kind. They are capable of traveling further than this if needed.

Pollination

Much like bees, Loomiflies will seek out flowers or Loomblooms to pollinate. When a Loomifly comes across one of these, it will circle it for some time while using its antennae to collect pollen. After over 400 ticks of doing this without being damaged or angered, it will collect pollen, gain pollen spots on its body, and drop pollen particles. However, these particles are less efficient at pollinating than bees.

After pollinating a flower, the Loomifly flies back to its nest and makes "sap," taking about 2 and a half minutes to do this. When this process is done, the amount of sap in the nest is increased by 1 (there is a 1% chance for it to increase by 2 instead), and the Loomifly leaves the nest to complete the cycle again. When the amount of sap within a nest reaches 5, a purple, honey-like substance becomes visible from the nest's pores, and the nest can then be harvested for a Loomifly sap bottle.

Attacking

All nearby Loomiflies become angered if an individual one is attacked, Loomifly sap is collected without a fire or campfire underneath, or a Loomifly nest is destroyed without Silk Touch. The latter two will release all Loomiflies within a nest, and anger them. Loomiflies attack by shooting Loomiflorbs at the player, causing nausea, slowness, weakness and mining fatigue. While the player is weakened, the Loomiflies will punch the player with their antennae. They only deal a single point of damage, but can keep attacking rapidly along with the rest of the swarm, making them fairly dangerous if angered.

Breeding

Loomiflies can be bred with Loomblooms, resulting in a Loomifly larva. The larva will try to follow nearby Loomiflies or roam near Loomifly nests, and takes 1 in-game day to grow into an adult. This time is shortened by 10% every time it is fed Loomblooms.

Material Conversion

If an adult Loomifly is given a honey bottle, it will play a short animation where it molds a sticky material between its antennae and front legs, and drop 4-5 Loomifly Wax. The Loomifly will have a 30-second cooldown before it can make more wax.
